World Family Doctor Day 2025 – Jamaica Highlights the Role of Family Doctors in Aging and Mental Resilience
Kingston, Jamaica – May 18, 2025
The World Family Doctor Day 2025 celebrations in Jamaica took center stage with a powerful conference under the theme “Mental Resilience and Healthy Aging: The Role of Family Doctors in a Changing World.” Collaborators for the event are: the Caribbean College of Family Physicians Jamaica Chapter, The Association of General Practitioners of Jamaica and The FAM-MED Unit at the University of the West Indies Mona. This virtual World Family Doctor Day (WFDD) event saw family physicians, healthcare professionals, and stakeholders from across the island and the region to reflected on the evolving role of primary care in addressing the needs of an aging population.
With an emphasis on building mental resilience, the conference explored critical challenges in healthcare delivery for older adults. Presentations addressed a wide range of topics, including:

A special panel discussion explored the public-private partnership landscape in Jamaica, focusing on the dynamic relationship between the Ministry of Health and the private health sector. The panel examined practical strategies to strengthen collaboration and deliver more integrated care across systems.
This year’s event underscored the expanding role of family doctors in supporting healthy aging and mental wellness, while also advocating for systemic improvements in healthcare delivery. It reinforced the importance of collaboration, education, and advocacy in navigating the challenges of a rapidly aging population.

Community Outreach
- The Jamaica Chapter conducted its annual outreach activity to the Community-Based Rehabilitation Jamaica (CBRJ) Project, donating J$150,000 toward repairs of kitchen and bathroom cupboards at the facility. The repairs were urgently needed, as the Ministry of Health and Wellness Jamaica (MOHWJ) had flagged the center for closure due to its poor condition.
